Entry Requirements
Important - Choosing the right Pre-Course Interview If English is not your first language and you have not already achieved ESOL at Level 1 or above, please enrol onto an ESOL Pre-Course Interview instead of an English Functional Skills Pre-Course Interview. There are no formal qualification requirements for this course. All learners will complete an initial assessment to identify their current skills and ensure they are enrolled at the most appropriate level. You should be willing to participate in class activities, complete independent work, and attend regularly.

What you will learn
You will develop practical English skills that can be applied in everyday life, the workplace, and further learning. Topics may include: - Reading and understanding a range of texts - Identifying key information, ideas, opinions, and purpose - Writing clearly and accurately for different audiences and purposes - Using correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar - Planning, drafting, and reviewing written work - Communicating effectively in discussions and presentations - Listening and responding appropriately to others - Developing confidence in spoken communication The content studied will be appropriate to your qualification level and will follow the Pearson Functional Skills English specification.

How you will learn
You will learn in a supportive classroom environment with guidance from an experienced tutor. Lessons include group discussions, reading activities, writing tasks, practical exercises, pair work, and individual study. You will have regular opportunities to practise your skills and receive feedback to help you improve and progress.

What will you need to bring
You should bring a pen, notebook, and any reading glasses you may require. You may also benefit from access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone for independent study and completing online activities. All essential learning materials will be provided.

How you will be assessed
Assessment is through Pearson Functional Skills English assessments. These include separate assessments for Reading and Writing, as well as a Speaking, Listening and Communicating component. Throughout the course, you will complete practice activities and mock assessments to help prepare you for the final assessments. Your tutor will monitor your progress and provide feedback to support your achievement.

What we expect from you
You are required to attend every session. The minimum required attendance for this course is 85%. Anything below this attendance will be reviewed by the Curriculum Development Manager and you may be withdrawn from the course and the outstanding course fees will still be payable.
