Improve your ability to interpret sewing patterns, plan construction steps, and select suitable fabrics and finishes.
Develop more secure dressmaking techniques, such as inserting zips, attaching sleeves, shaping garments, and finishing edges neatly.
Explore fitting, adjusting, and refining garments to improve comfort, shape, and overall finish.
Apply your skills to produce a more detailed garment with increasing independence.

Course description
This course is designed for learners who have a basic foundation in clothes making and are ready to develop their skills through more independent projects. Working with a commercial pattern of your own choice, you will create a garment while building confidence in planning, construction, and finishing techniques.

Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for learners who have completed beginner clothes making course or have equivalent experience, including confidence in using a sewing machine.

What you will learn
With teacher guidance, you will further develop your ability to interpret pattern instructions, plan your project, and work more independently. The course will support you in improving accuracy, problem-solving skills, and overall garment finish.

You will learn a range of new techniques to enhance your sewing, including inserting zips (both standard and invisible), creating buttonholes and making your own bias binding for a professional finish. There will also be opportunities to refine your seam finishes and gain a better understanding of fabric handling and garment assembly.

Please note this course focuses on construction and finishing techniques rather than detailed garment fitting or pattern alteration.

How you will learn
You will learn in a supportive classroom environment with guidance from an experienced tutor.

What you will need to bring
You will need to bring your own commercial pattern and fabric. Further details will be provided at the start of the course.

Where next
Learners can continue to build on their skills through further independent projects or more advanced specialist courses as they develop their sewing practice.
